What comes to mind when you hear these words? What is your earliest recollection involving either communion or baptism?  Where’s the most unique place you’ve ever seen a baptism take place? Is the water cold or hot? Grape juice or wine? (just kidding on the last two!)  Join the conversation…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;November 7, 2010 is an anticipated Sunday at King Road.  We will gather, hear testimonies of what God is doing in people’s lives, and then celebrate baptism and communion together.  Come, join us!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last Sunday, Pastor Don spoke about the four “R’s” of communion.  First, we &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;remember&lt;/span&gt;.  Second, we &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;rejoice&lt;/span&gt;.  Third, we &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;repent&lt;/span&gt;.  And fourth, we are &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;reconciled&lt;/span&gt;. It does us all good to be reminded regularly of the significance of communion.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You know what caught my attention?  “You see, as long as we are human, we will have sin in our lives.  If we came to the table only when we are sinless, we would never come.  We come because we are sinners, we come because Christ’s death paid the penalty for our sin, we come because we know that we will sin again, and that Christ’s blood has covered that too.  We come only when we realize that we are sinners saved by grace.” This perspective reminds me of just how significant Jesus’ death and resurrection are for me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And what about baptism? No, I'm not kidding, nor am I three and a half months early!  September often really does feel like the new year.  School starts.  Regular ministries at King Road start again.  People come back from holidays (only to leave for hunting trips!)  There is a sense of excitement in the air.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, I simply want to inform you of the plan for the next month or so in the morning worship services.  First of all, September 12 is our kick-off Sunday, one service at 10:00 a.m.  Our church picnic follows immediately afterward at Jackson Elementary.  (full details can be found on the church website).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the German services, the preaching series in 1 John will continue.  In the English services, we will be revisiting our ministry model.  Each week a different core ministry will be highlighted.  Children's ministries, Youth Ministries, Care Groups, Local Missions, and Global Missions.  We will hear testimonies from those involved.  We will be reminded of the road God is leading us as a congregation along.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Join us!  September 19th Sunday School (for all ages) and supervised child care resume again. Those of you who know me, won’t be surprised that I have several long (and detailed) lists that I have checked, reviewed, and worked through several times.  It’s part of how God has gifted me.  Yet, throughout these past weeks of preparation, I have found myself often reminded of the reason for this event…worshiping God together!  God has created us as relational beings…people who not only need relationship with other people, but also a relationship with God.  So, I find myself praying that our time together tonight will truly be a time of praising and honouring God, encouraging each other in the process.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At last count, there are over 40 people, from multiple churches, involved in helping lead tonight’s service.  This is but a small picture of the broader kingdom of God, where people from every tribe and nation worship God.  I am grateful to every single person who is involved, for every single person who will attend, and for every single person who is praying.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, welcome.  Join us.  Perhaps you need the encouragement of others.  Perhaps you need a chance to forget the realities of your present situation for a short time as we gather to worship.  Perhaps you just love to sing.  Whatever your motivation, my invitation stands. This song grows and grows, culminating in every living creature joining in and singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honour and glory and power for ever and ever!” (Read the entire chapter here – &lt;a href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=rev%205&amp;version=NIV"&gt;Revelation 5&lt;/a&gt;).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;King Road Church is hosting the second annual &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;“Together We Sing”&lt;/span&gt; worship evening, a time of praise, worship, fellowship, and encouragement.  It’s a time to invite people of all ages to join together and worship God!  There will be lots of congregational singing.  There will be some choir pieces (you too can join the choir – see below) and other presentation pieces.  Lots of musicians are committed to being involved.  So, join us.  Invite a friend.  Spread the news.  Come and sing, in worship of Jesus our King! And the God of peace will be with you.”&lt;/span&gt; (Philippians 4:4-9)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Saddle Ridge Ranch is now closed :(  But what a wrap-up it was.  For one last time yesterday, all those at Saddle Ridge Ranch played games, did a craft, and looked at Scripture…this time to answer the question “What Do I Do Now?”  The lesson:  honour God!  Sounds simple, but it’s a 24/7 kind of thing.  The verses above are a great reminder for all of us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And then we how a large round-up, with parents, grandparents, and other guests.  We said “Howdy!” and “Yeehaw!”  We sang.  We watched pictures.  And we discovered Rusty (or was it Dusty?) found his dog again.  Oh yeah, there was also ice-cream…(pictures are on our facebook page).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, as tired as we may be, it’s a good tired.  What a privilege to spend the week together.  Thanks to all 64 volunteers.  Thanks to all participants.  And, most importantly, thanks to God for the gift of His Son Jesus. Wow!  We’ve had over 100 children registered at Saddle Ridge Ranch this week.  It has been great to spend the week together, particularly in learning from God’s Word.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last night’s question was “How Can I Be Like Jesus?”  The children should be able to list a whole lot of answers…but the key point is best summarized by the word &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;“follow”&lt;/span&gt;.  I can follow Jesus’ example!  This is a high calling that all of us should strive for.  Jesus showed love, care, concern, compassion, fed the poor, served, taught…What will you and I do as we practically follow Jesus?  This is a question worth answering…not just by our words, but also by our actions.  Where are you sensing God calling you to follow Him?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One more night on the ranch…better go shine the boots. Saddle Ridge Ranch has been a busy, lively, and loud place.  What have we learned?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• cowboy boots aren’t the most comfortable footwear (one person’s opinion)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• horses drool a lot (up to 10 gallons a day, or 37.4 litres a day)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• lots of ranch visitors are wearing cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and bandannas, but where are the chaps?  Still waiting to see someone show up wearing chaps…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• cookies (and fruit) taste very, very, very yummy&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• our ABC’s…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Energy and fun are vital at VBS.  So are volunteers who absolutely and selflessly love the children with God’s love.  And, we’ve been answering questions.  Humanity is God’s greatest creation – He made you; He made me!  He cares for us.  And He has a plan for us.  The story of Zacchaeus shows us that Jesus came for sinners – God sent Jesus to walk this earth, die on the cross, and then rise again for you and for me!  What a great gift.  And, to receive the gift of salvation, we have to know our ABC’s…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;You gotta A admit to God that you’re sinner and repent and turn away from your sins. &lt;br /&gt;You gotta B believe that Jesus is the Son of God and accept His gift of forgiveness. &lt;br /&gt;You gotta C confess your faith in Jesus as your Saviour and your Lord forevermore. &lt;br /&gt;Then you will never be like a tumbleweed.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, where are you at with God? Did you get a sense of the excitement that comes from praising Jesus together with 90 or so energetic children and 50 or so ranch hands?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The second question of the week was “Does God care about me?”  On the surface, most of us would probably answer with a simple “yes” immediately after reading this question.  Of course God cares!  But we spent some time thinking about the realities of this as we looked at the story of Joseph.  God truly does care, but sometimes in the midst of troubles it is good to be reminded of this.  So, remember…GOD CARES!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here’s something you can do to remind yourself that God cares…make a list of ways that God shows how much He cares for you.  See if you can come up with one for every letter of the alphabet.  We’d love to see some responses…&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight our visit to Saddle Ridge Ranch continues, and it’s ABC night (more tomorrow). Over 80 children…more than 50 volunteers…add the parents mingling around and it was one exciting place to be.  More than one loud “YEEHAW” was heard last night.  We even managed to get the old auditorium smelling like a barn!  And the singing around the (pretend) campfire was loud and energetic…no quiet lullabies here &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In this week of “&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Roundin’ up questions and drivin’ home answers,&lt;/span&gt;” the first question was the very basic “&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Who Am I?&lt;/span&gt;”  The Bible tells the story of creation in the book of Genesis…and you and I (God’s people) are His greatest creation.  This is an important reminder for all of us!  God made us, exactly as He did, for a purpose.  We are His greatest creation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Keep praying.  Keep inviting friends.  Keep trusting God. Ask God!</title><content type='html'>“&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.&lt;/span&gt;” (James 1:5)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Set among the stunning vistas and wide-open spaces of Big Sky Country (also known as the premises of King Road Church), Saddle Ridge Ranch is a place where kids can ask questions and discover the answers found in God’s Word.  Yes, Vacation Bible School kicks off today…yeehaw!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Under Janet’s leadership, over 50 volunteers are geared up and ready to go for this week of adventure and learning for children entering kindergarten to grade 5.  Yes, we plan to have fun!  Yes, there will be snacks…and singing…and crafts…and noise.  But most importantly, there will be seeds of God’s Word sown throughout the week.  So, we’re asking you to pray.  Pray for the children.  Pray for the volunteers.  Pray for safety. Trek Camp - week 1 is almost over, week 2 is next week.  Please pray that God's Word will take root in the lives of the children attending.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Celebration 2010 - next week marks the North American celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the MB denomination.  Lots of meetings planned.  We're hosting some international guests. This is an interesting word that conjures up the image of having practical application.  Businesses, for example, work hard at being relevant, offering the correct services and products for their consumer.  At King Road, we too have agreed that relevance is one of our preferred values. &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt; “We value our faith expressed in a meaningful way so that all can understand.  They will know we are Christians by our love and social responsibility.”&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is little doubt in my mind that we would quite readily agree that the communication of our faith must be understandable.  We strive to be age-appropriate (e.g. children’s ministry) and context specific.  We are committed to struggle through the challenge of understanding our culture in order to impact the culture with God’s love.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But how do we understand social responsibility?  How well are we doing on this front?  Where do we need to be challenged?  Are we engaging the needs of our community? And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”&lt;/span&gt; (Matthew 28:18-20)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As we continue our conversation about King Road’s preferred values, our attention focuses this week to the command found in Jesus’ Great Commission.  “Disciple Making - We value discipleship that results in passionate lovers of Christ empowered for ministry - lives that are transformed by God’s Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:18-20; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 5:42)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Discipleship implies teaching and learning, developing, maturing, formal and informal, learning from someone ahead of us in their journey with God (while also building into those following us along the same journey).  This value is not unique to King Road – it truly is what God calls all believers to.  So, perhaps the better question for us to consider is what discipleship looks like.  Consider these questions to help you reflect on this:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- How formal should our congregation’s discipleship plan be?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- How essential is it to match people into mentoring relationships?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- How do you feel about your own discipleship journey?  How can the church help and encourage you?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We dream of the result being passionate and empowered people.  Yes, this life starts with and relies on the Holy Spirit, but we are called to do our part of equipping and providing opportunities.  Are you passionate about your walk with Jesus, as passionate as you are about the Stanley Cup playoffs, World Cup Soccer, or Monday night football?  Let’s walk with each other with a sense of purpose! This means we are willing to serve God and others regardless of the personal cost. (John 13:12-17; 2 Corinthians 8:9; Philippians 1:21; 1 Peter 4:10)”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would suggest that most people would place a fairly high priority on the value of service, particularly when we find ourselves on the receiving end.  We like good service; we complain about poor service.  Some of us make consumer choices based more on service than on price.  We may tip extra for exceptional service (note to self: perhaps a discussion on generosity is in order!).  We readily share our stories of poor service with others.  Overall, I would argue that humanity naturally wants good service.  Put more bluntly:  we like to be served.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, as a church (as individuals) we need to offer something on the other side of the service equation…the giving side.  Scripture has numerous examples of sacrificial service, perhaps none more poignant that Jesus’ journey to the cross.  The church throughout history has practiced service.  And here we are, in Abbotsford in 2010, also committed to sacrificial service.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?&lt;/span&gt;  Might this mean a sacrifice of our time?  Will it be inconvenient?  Will it mean dealing with a “mess,” whether literally or figuratively?  Will it be safe?  What will be the personal cost?  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How well would you suggest King Road does at sacrificial service?  Or perhaps a better question:  how can we better model sacrificial service, not only to each other, but also to our community? We have defined it as follows:  “We value loving and enjoying people just as Jesus did.  Life transformation takes place through compassionate and authentic relationships.  Therefore everything we do we will do relationally (1 John 1:7; 1 John 4:9-10; Romans 15:7-8).”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Loving relationships.  Authenticity.  Fellowship.  Community.  Openness.  Transparency.  Honesty.  Relational words seem to be all the rage recently.  Book after book has been written to address the human need for relationship.  You see, God has created us as relational people who need both God and others.  The greatest commandment is to love God with everything, but the second greatest commandment focuses on our relationship with others…love our neighbour as ourselves.  I don’t think I need to convince anyone of the need for loving relationships.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would, however, like to ask your help in describing what this looks like in your life. Missions has been part of the DNA of King Road for the past 44 years, particularly the commitment to cross-cultural missions.  Our commitment to local missions also continues to develop as we practically serve our community (thanks to our youth and young adults for leading the way!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our definition of “Missionary Vision” reads as follows:  We value a bold, enthusiastic vision of reaching all people with the love of Christ at home and among the nations. We will send, serve and go to whomever He has called us.  Playing it safe is not attractive to us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Send, serve, and go.  Strong words.  Important words.  Challenging words.  In order to send people, we need finances (thank you for your giving!)  We also need to discern God’s call on people and bless/free them to go.  At attitude of service is key, lived out in a willingness to get our hands dirty.  Going means stepping out in faith.  How would you add to these introductory thoughts around the concepts of sending, serving, and going?  Join the conversation!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The last line, however, is what I find most challenging:  “Playing it safe is not attractive to us.”  If I’m honest, playing it safe is easier and more convenient than stepping into the unknown.  How committed are we (am I?) to stepping out in faith, to taking a risk for Jesus?  Missionary vision is very closely tied into our dependence on God.  Our mouths can readily say that playing it safe is not attractive, but now our actions must give credence to this.  What will this look like?  God knows!  Will someone from our congregation go?  I truly believe the answer to this is “YES”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Jesus is our centre!  I think we’d all agree on that, but the two challenging words that jump out at me in the description above are “surrender” and “obedience.”  These are action words which readily provide evidence for our spoken claims by both our actions and our inactions.  How would you define these words?  Leave a comment with your insights!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surrender is not easy, nor popular.  We battle the independent nature of our humanity daily.  We struggle to obey when we’d rather not.  There is an ongoing challenge to relinquish our own control as the centre of our lives.  All of us struggle with surrender, but we must not give up!  The verses above give us encouragement to help each other out, deal with sin, and persevere.  As we walk together (true fellowship), we can help each other place Christ at the centre of our lives, our decisions, our entertainment choices, our spending habits, our thoughts, our words, our actions, our…! And then Don stirred more thoughts with his sermon on Sunday (visit the church website and have a listen).  He had some interesting things to say about not simply reading scripture, but truly hearing it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I want to invite us to memorize scripture.  Yes, it will take time.  No, it won’t always be easy.  Yes, anyone can do it (just ask my children).  Many of us have several verses memorized, often from when we were younger.   But, I’d like us to think bigger picture than that, particularly as adults.  &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;What would it take for you to commit to memorizing an entire chapter of scripture? &lt;/span&gt; Do I have any takers to join me on this venture? (It’s always easier doing this with others.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last fall, I heard someone recite the entire book of Jude (it’s one chapter, in case you’re wondering). (Psalm 119: 105; Colossians 3:16-17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:25; Hebrews 4:12)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where does one start a conversation about the &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Bible &lt;/span&gt;and the importance of &lt;span style="font-style:italic;"&gt;Biblical Teaching&lt;/span&gt;?  Perhaps I should simply add several more scripture references to those listed above and leave it at that!  (Feel free to contact me for such a list.)  As we live out the value of depending on God, we must be guided by Him, and one key way God guides us is through His Word.  So, I simply ask, how central is the Word of God in your life?  We strive to teach the Bible well and accurately, and make decisions as a congregation based on guidance from God’s Word.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As I did in the previous entry, allow me to suggest some questions to stir your thinking and conversations.  You might benefit from discussing one or more of these with someone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- What helps you spend regular time in the Bible?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- What is difficult for you as you strive to read the Bible?  (How might we help you?)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- Are you more likely to read the Bible or a devotional book about the Bible?  Where is the necessary balance between these two options?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- What parts of the Bible would you like to see more teaching on?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- What insights could you share about scripture memorization?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At King Road, we are committed to Biblical Teaching! (Psalm 104:27-28; Ephesians 1:3-6; Philippians 2:13)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is not difficult for us to say that we need to depend on God; but the challenge often is for us to live out this reality with consistent regularity in all that we do.  So, as I reflect on the need to fully depend on God, I find several questions rattling through my mind that I ask in order to stir some discussion and conversation (add a comment below, send an email, pick up the phone, discuss with someone over coffee…)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;- Is it easier to depend on God when things are going well or when faced with challenges?  Why?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- What is the balance between depending on God yet doing our part?  Which one comes easier to you?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- To what degree is prayer a vital part of your life?  Do you have any suggestion or ideas to share that you find helpful in your prayer life?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dependence on God needs to be an accurate description of God’s children.  Our prayer at King Road is that we may model this, both as individuals and corporately.  It is never easy relinquishing one’s independence, but there is no better thing than giving everything over to God and simply trusting Him. Our vision statement is listed on the right of this page (About us).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As part of this, we have articulated our preferred values which highlight who God wants us to be.  These values are &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;dependence on God&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;biblical teaching&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;Christ as centre&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;missionary vision&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;loving relationships&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;sacrificial service&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;disciple making&lt;/span&gt;, &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;relevance&lt;/span&gt;, and &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;empowered leadership&lt;/span&gt;. You can’t have one without the other!  However, as I’ve been reflecting on our rapidly approaching Easter celebrations, I’ve been asking myself why we tend to prepare for one more than the other?  Many evangelicals do not give much thought to the season of lent, the time of preparation for Easter.  I wonder why this is? The TV coverage is endless…the celebrations spontaneous and loud…and even Canadian patriotism has made an appearance.  We celebrate the achievements, we languish at missing a medal by hundredths of a second, and somehow this event allows us to live vicariously through people we had hardly ever heard of before last week.  Yes, the Olympics are exciting.  Yes, I’m proud to be a Canadian.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But I find myself thinking about the many, many people I know who are making a difference that will have eternal results.  The person who gives up free time to help a newcomer to Canada and show God’s love through time and action.  The person who helps the less fortunate when it would be easier to simply ignore the suffering.  The person who prays regularly for their neighbour.  The person who gives money to further God’s kingdom.  These are stories that we should celebrate, and I mean truly celebrate!  They won’t get 20 hours a day of TV coverage, but they are much more important.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some of you may read this prior to Sunday.  If so, come prepared to speak of how you are seeing God at work.  We will have a sharing time during the service. God's Promises!</title><content type='html'>Have you had enough of the "Best of the Decade" lists yet?  They appear everywhere!  From my viewpoint, it seems as though there is more interest in looking back than in looking forward. Not exactly sure why, but perhaps humanity has an easier time with what is known than what is unknown.  Yet, in the midst of this looking back is also talk of resolutions! Many "changes" will happen tomorrow in people's lives, but how many will last?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The key in all of this?  Bank on God's promises!  They are all throughout scripture.  Read them.  Pray.  Trust God.  Walk with others!  God knows the future and He loves us!  Isn't that amazing?  This Sunday, in both services, many will share a promise from God's Word for His glory and our mutual encouragement.  If you were to share, what promise would you focus on? God Loves You!</title><content type='html'>&lt;p  style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:trebuchet ms;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;John 1:14 may well be  the most profound theological proposition in the entire bible – &lt;i&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;The Word became flesh and made his  dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who  came from the Father, full of grace and truth.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;   Imagine the  ramifications of this verse – the Word whom John says is God himself, the  Creator and author of life, the light of the World taking on human form and  coming to live with us – Emmanuel!   What could possibly motivate the God of the  Universe to come to this tiny speck of dust in our massive solar system, which  is itself a tiny spot in a seemingly infinite universe?  What could possibly  motivate the Creator to become one of his billions and billions of creatures? &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p  style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:trebuchet ms;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;John tells us it is  love &lt;i&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;– &lt;span&gt;For God so loved the world…&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;   Christmas is, at its very core, a love story – God longs to restore us to the  relationship for which we were created.  That’s why Christ came.  That’s why we  celebrate Christmas.  If you feel unloved, then Christmas is for you.  If you  feel insignificant and worthless, then Christmas will restore your perspective.   If you’ve lost hope, then Christmas is the greatest good news you could ever  hope to hear.  My prayer is that in the hustle and bustle of the season you will  find a few quiet moments to reflect on the good news of Emmanuel – God With Us! He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will  never be thirsty."&lt;/span&gt; Jesus in John 6:35&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;Food is a common  topic at Christmas.  How many turkey dinners have you had?  Family gatherings  aren't complete without a vast array of food items.  The calendar is full with  work dinners, church banquets, and more.  Long lines in the grocery store to  stock up on supplies (and in Starbucks to grab a coffee) try our patience.  And,  at the end of the season, perhaps a few of us have eaten too much, only to  discover that the next day brings more hunger.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;This has got me  thinking.  What about those who don't have enough food?  What about the empty  shelves in the Food Bank?  We have a box in our church foyer where we regularly  collect food for the Abbotsford Food Bank.  What would it take for our  congregation to fill that box to overflowing this Christmas?  Or, better yet,  fill it completely every month?  This is one small way of helping meet a very  real need in our community.  But, once again, even after eating generously  donated food, all those who partake will again be hungry the next  day.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;Jesus' words remind  us of where the focus should be this Christmas.  Not only on food, but on God's  Son, the Bread of Life!  We need to work hard at meeting practical needs, but we  also need to address the spiritual needs so rampant all around us.  What  spiritual food can we offer this Christmas?  What are we doing to offer people  Jesus?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:100%;"  &gt;&lt;span class="038441719-18122009"&gt;Offer a suggestion  in the comment section to start a conversation around how food and Christmas  connect.  Make a donation to the Food Bank.  Invite someone for lunch.  Make  dinner for your neighbour. Christmas is accompanied by concerts, banquets, trees, decorations, sometimes snow, (often too much) baking, busyness, joy, gifts...but what about the impatience, debt, loneliness, and despair that often tag along uninvited?  The reality of Christmas highlights the tension we often find ourselves living with here on earth.  Yet, into this hurting world and our broken lives, God sent His Son!  This is why we celebrate.  &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;"The Word became flesh...glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favour rests!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Welcome to the King Road Church blog&lt;/span&gt;.
